Alabama Department of Environmental Management

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has been delegated authority by the Environmental Protection Agency to carry out the provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act in Alabama. This is accomplished through enforcement of the Division 7 regulations, construction and operating permits, robust monitoring and reporting, and frequent inspections of the nearly 600 public water systems in the state.
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) are low-interest loan programs intended to finance public infrastructure improvements in Alabama. The programs are funded with a blend of state and federal capitalization funds. ADEM administers the CWSRF and DWSRF, performs the required technical/environmental reviews of projects, and disburses funds to recipients.
